How many clicks are fraudulent?
The image above shows the results of a study that answers a question that clients ask us about pay per click advertising all of the time. What is going to stop my competitor from clicking on my ad and spending my budget, all day every day?
The answer to that is Google's internal fraud prevention system which consists of a proactive 3 prong approach:
- Proactive Automatic filters: When a click occurs it goes through a number of filters before it is charged to your daily budget. One of the filters is to determine if that click comes from a familiar ip address.
- Proactive Offline Analysis: Google Engineers analyze the clicks that failed to pass through the filter and the clicks that have generated warnings. The process of the analysis is not released to the general public
- Reactive Intestigations:Google prides themselves in running a good show. Click fraud is considered a felony crime and Google takes this offense very seriously.
